OUR GAMEMASTERS GIVE YOU TIPS TO SOLVE AN ESCAPE ROOM IN RECORD TIME.

In an escape room, you have a limited time to complete your mission and exit the room. Our gamemasters have seen many teams succeed and fail, making them well-equipped to give you some insider tips. If you want to set a record time or simply prepare yourself better, we’ll give you a behind-the-scenes look.

The most important thing: communication. This can be especially challenging in larger groups. Keep telling each other what you see, what you’re looking for, and what you’ve found throughout the entire game. Statements like “Here’s a lock that needs a key,” “I found a ball,” “We need a five-letter word to open this lock,” or “I think we need to place something here” all help the team move forward. Finding something and keeping it to yourself wastes valuable minutes.

Look around carefully. Assume that everything could be a clue. Nothing in an escape room is random. While there are decorative elements, make sure you’ve examined everything. You might find a hint later that connects to something you noticed earlier.

If you start a puzzle, riddle, or challenge, try to complete it. It’s not always clear whether you have all the necessary information to solve a puzzle, but time is often lost when teams begin solving something and then abandon it. Finish a puzzle before moving on.

If possible, work on things in parallel. Depending on the design of the escape room, puzzles may need to be solved sequentially (one after the other) or in parallel (simultaneously). Most escape rooms have a mix of both. Try to split up tasks while solving puzzles, but remember: keep communicating.

There’s no shame in asking for or receiving a hint. The same escape room is played by both experienced players and first-timers. Some teams need more hints than others, and that’s completely normal. Finishing an escape room within the time limit without any hints is extremely rare.

It’s not always easy—you’re excited, running from one side of the room to the other, exploring… But try to maintain some structure. Keep track of what has already been solved or used, and make sure everyone knows.

And most importantly—whether things go well or not — have fun! That’s why you started this adventure in the first place. 😊
